Online registration is currently available for the following in-person courses in Minnesota. Experience shows that students who take courses in-person retain more information and therefore learn more. Our courses are intentionally designed to be relevant and informative to the construction industry.

2025 MN General Contractor Update Continuing Education

This is the new class for the 2025 contractor renewel season!

In this years class we will be talking about the need for a business plan, how to bid properly and we will discuss the ROI of common remodeling projects. Also we talk about some building code items, proper ventilation of walls and attics and discuss some recent law changes that affect our industry.

This class in approved for 7 hours of MN contractor CE credits and includes both the 1 hr energy and 1 hr business requirements.

2024 MN General Contractor Update Continuing Education

This class was for the 2024 renewel season so if you didn’t take a class last year you can take this class + our 2025 update class to get your 14 hours.

In this class we talk about MN specific business administration information for contractors from chapter 1300 in the 2020 MN residential code book. We talk about building code requirements from chapters 2-6 of the building code. Our energy component focuses on how to measure energy and determine energy loss in the building envelope and how to assess our clients homes to provide a plan to improve energy efficiency.

This class in approved for 7 hours of MN contractor CE credits and includes both the 1 hr energy and 1 hr business requirements.

MN General Contractor Exam Prep

This two-day, in person class will prepare you to pass the Minnesota General Contractor License Exam. In this course, you will learn about business law requirements and the 2020 MN Residential Code. All course materials are included, including our workbook and the 2020 MN residential code book.

EPA RRP Lead Certification

This 8-hour class meets the requirements for lead paint certification. You can use this class for the initial certification and renewal. This class is also approved for 8 hours of general MN residential contractor continuing education (does not include business or energy).

About Dan

Dan has been teaching industry courses since 2004. He has an extensive background in architecture and construction, with 18+ years of experience teaching pre-licensing and continuing education courses for contractors throughout the state of Minnesota.

In 2020, many contractor education courses moved to virtual or online options, but Dan is committed to providing face-to-face training. Dan started Sterling Professional Education because he knew the value of the in-person classroom experience, and he can’t wait to bring that experience to you.

The state of Minnesota follows the EPA requirements for lead paint certification. All contractors working on pre-1978 homes must be EPA RRP certified. Many municipalities won’t issue permits on pre-1978 homes without the contractor having the RRP certification.
